Governor and First Lady Inaugurate Red Cross Mela | KNO

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 17 (KNO) : Governor N. N. Vohra, President of the Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu and Kashmir, and Mrs. Usha Vohra, First Lady, inaugurated the annual ‘Red Cross Mela’ at the Gulshan Grounds, here today. Appreciating the activities carried out by the State Red Cross Society during the past months, the Governor said that the Organization has been rendering valuable service in providing prompt help during varied exigencies and has continued with its endeavours to mobilise resources for its philanthropic activities. Governor emphasized the importance of Melas and similar events being organized at frequent intervals by the District and Regional Red Cross Societies for raising contributions and side, by side, propagating the Red Cross objectives. Emphasising the vital importance of providing First Aid Training to the volunteers of the Red Cross, Governor observed that Red Cross people are among the first to reach the site of any disaster and their promptness in giving adequate first aid can save precious lives.

Noting that in the past years First Aid training was provided by the Red Cross Society to the drivers and conductors in the public transport sector, Governor informed that from now on high attention shall be devoted to provide First Aid training to students in educational institutions. He complimented the trained Volunteers of the Society in always being the first to lend a helping hand to those in distress. Governor complimented Sh. Hemant Kumar Sharma, Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society-Jammu Region, and all his colleagues, for organizing this Red Cross Mela. Earlier, Governor and the First Lady visited the stalls put up at the Mela by a large number of governmental agencies and private organizations. He showed interest in the products being displayed and interacted with the students, officers, and others who were managing the stalls. On the occasion a cultural programme and a Demonstration for providing First Aid in cases of bullet injuries were presented. Sh. Hemant Kumar Sharma, Divisional Commissioner Jammu presented the Welcome Address to highlight the activities of the Red Cross and Sh. Dinesh Gupta, Hony. Secretary, Indian Red cross Society, Jammu, gave a Vote of Thanks. Sh. Manish Choudhary, Joint Secretary, IRCS National Headquarters, Sh. M.S. Rather, Honorary General Secretary, IRCS, Jammu and Kashmir, Sh. S.D. Singh Jamwal, IGP Jammu, Sh. Ramawtar, IG BSF, Ms. Roma Wani, Member National Managing Body, IRCS, Ms. Seema Shekhar Khajuria, Member, State Managing Committee, IRCS, J&K, were among those present on the occasion.(KNO)
